Three types of files bear the .qfx extension including a QuickTime component, a Quicken data file, and a Qtext text file. The most common association is with QuickTime, Apple's multimedia software for Mac and Windows. This type of .qtx is a plugin which gives QuickTime support for various additional file formats and codecs. It also allows QuickTime to recognize and play some videos made with non-native codecs. The data contained in the files is proprietary to the QuickTime software and not useful externally. Since the .qtx file only contains data enabling the use of audio and video codecs, it is called by QuickTime only as needed. Therefore, it is not assigned a MIME type.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my computer started to experience random freezes, I just used Regtask and now it works normally again.

My computer is 5 years old and runs extremely slow now. I was a bit sceptical about using Regtask, but just decided to give it a shot in the end and it worked out fantastically for me.

It must be noted than in order for QuickTime's .qtx files to be utilized they must be installed into the correct directory. In Windows the directory is C:Windowssystem32; for Linux running under wine the directory is /home/user_name/.wine/drive_c/Windows/system32/; and for Mac the directory is /Library/Quicktime/. If Files are not stored in the correct directory, errors will occur when trying to open and play media files that need non-native codecs. This could include "unable to open" errors, or program crashes and freezes. Other errors may occur if QuickTime is not updated, resulting in mismatches between newer codecs and the old .qtx.

More Info Regarding File Extension Qtx
Linux users may experience additional errors with QuickTime files as most distros do not include the necessary codecs in the default installation. In this case, check your repositories and make sure you have installed w32codecs and libquicktime1. If you cannot find the codecs in your repositories, consult the user groups of your specific distro for help. Some LInux distros do not support w32 or QuickTime codecs because they are not open source. If you find that to be true of your distro, the only solution is to move to one that supports these codecs.
Quicken financial software utilizes the .qfx file extension for its tax related information. Any Quicken user could look in his program directory and find a file called qdata.qtx along with other types of data files, but the dates might not match. This is due to the fact that Quicken only updates the .qfx file after the user performs some tax related operations in Quicken. For users who do not use Quicken in this way, the .qtx file will still have its original date while the rest of the data files have the date of the last operation.
Quicken 2008 R4 users have complained about an error using Tax Planner after upgrading from R3. The upgrade cannot read the tax data file and attempts to create a new one. The suggested solution is to rename the .qtx file and append the extension, adding something like .old. Next time Quicken is launched it will find that no .qtx file exists and will create a new one from scratch. As with all Quicken data files, data corruption will most likely result in the program crashing or freezing. By default, Quicken creates a backup of the data files every time the data is modified from within the software. It is possible to use these backups to replace corrupted data files. It is suggested that the backup file be copied and pasted rather than moved, just in case it too becomes corrupted.
The third and final association of the .qtx file belongs to Qtext. This application was a Hebrew-English word processor for DOS in the late eighties and early nineties. It ran in text mode with no GUI interface, saving its text files with the .qtx file extension. Qtext is no longer produced or supported, but it is assumed that the file format was ASCII. If that is the case, Qtext .qtx files could be opened and edited with a standard text editor. No further information on these files has been reported.
